Unredeemed Gifts – the Psychic
There is a lot of misinformation spreading through the churches today on what a psychic is and how they can talk to spirits. Paranormal research has now become a mainstream past time due heavily in part to the success of the long running Ghost Hunters series on the SyFy channel. The wide availability of podcasting has also sparked a sub-culture in capturing and broadcasting supernatural phenomena. There must be hundreds of paranormal research groups on the Internet. With that said, let's revisit the lessons learned from Wikipedia. Just because the information is on the Internet does not guarantee reliability of the source or the factuality of the information. The present fad of paranormal investigation is one such example of misinformation gone awry. We have an interesting clash of technology and spirituality. So much for the age old misnomer religion and science don't mix.
The #1 leading source of misinformation are the television shows. The viewers are so hungry for something spiritual that they literally live off every word these reality stars spout. Now some positive credit is due to the Ghost Hunter series where the lead people tend to state that what they are doing is based on theory and not of facts. The problem is the viewer ignores the theory aspect and reals in the information as fact. Copy cat viewers then run with this and setup websites and prop themselves up as so called experts because they have a large web viewership. Again, this is dangerous, but its the fact of the society we live in where the average person can post and broadcast anything, anywhere, and now! Subculture celebrities are rising out of this paranormal web cast phenomenon. Some hosts of these sites are reporting to be actual psychics who lend their talent to haunting investigations.
The fact of the matter is that we have learned nothing knew since the dawn of man on what exists in the afterlife. God the creator created the universe. People since the dawn of man have had psychic abilities. The Hebrew texts of the Torah report different religions having their own seers. A seer is one who can communicate with the spirit realm. The prophets of God were called seers. Man was created in God's image.
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them. - Genesis 1:27
We know God is spirit and that he is the creator of the universe.
God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth. - John 4:24
God is spirit and He communicates with us through our spirit. Man is comprised of mind, body and spirit. The mind is a complicated design, it has a soul, a will and the mind. The soul is corporeal, yet its physical presence is required for us to exist. Without it we would be dead!
God speaks to us through our soul and grants us access to him. In mystical theology when God wants to be with us His presence is with us in our soul. When God comes to us in this manner, by merely touching us it is a gift from Him. As we are touched by God we seek to know him deeper. As our soul unions with God, He may release more gifts upon us or a deeper understanding of a current gift, such as being a seer or discernment of spirits, as examples. When we look spiritual gifts in this manner we call them redeemed gifts. All people are born with some form of spiritual gift. When the soul invites Jesus Christ into their life the gift is redeemed by the work on the cross. God is now speaking to our spirit and releasing revelation. A seer, using the Hebrew text, or prophet, in the Bible, is a person that has the ability to receive revelation from God.
The Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
In the book of Genesis, the scripture points out two very distinct and specific types of trees in the Garden of Eden. They are the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. -Genesis 2:8
God left specific instructions to Adam and Eve that they could eat from any tree in the garden, except from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." - Genesis 2:17
When Adam and Eve sinned they were banished from the garden. God placed a cherubim at the gate so Adam and Eve could not return in their sinful state. Now, what exactly happened? Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate from the tree gaining prohibited knowledge. They were left in a state of sin. God had to banish them and keep them out. If they ate from the tree of life they would eternally stay in this state of sin. So God locked them out!
When our soul surrenders to Jesus and He touches our spirit, we are once more covered by the tree of life. We have eternal life because we are redeemed. At this moment our spiritual gifts are redeemed too and we receiving information to our spirit from the Holy Spirit. This is the case with a seer or prophet using their spiritual gifting. The gifting operates differently from when it was unredeemed.
When a gift is operating and is not redeemed, it is operating under the context of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and the information is going to the soul for processing. This information isn't coming from God, although it could if God is speaking to an individual for them to change their ways.
This explanation is not intended to be a finger pointing holy-er than though context. The point is to edify was is taking place when a psychic receives their information. The difficulty in the explanation in the matter that a psychic doesn't see they are being deceived by spirits. Through a redeemed gift you don't see a friendly ghost child wanting to play ball. You see a hideous demon-child with an organic umbilical looking thing tethered to a wall in the spirit realm. Demons hack the psychic hotline and their extremely good at it!
A case in point from the Bible, Paul encounters the fortune teller. Paul has redeemed spiritual gifts and authority over the spirit realm. The fortune teller is pouting out information from demons. The fortune teller was talking to demons and receiving a broadcast of deception.
16Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved." 18She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her. Acts 16:16-18
Hi-Jacked Gifts
God gives us the gifts as he sees fit. A person can be born a psychic and develop their gifts as they grow. This gift is hi-jacked by the enemy and he'll use it to demonstrate the person has uncanny abilities. Unfortunately, all the people we see on TV who are helping solve police cases are exercising an unredeemed gift. The enemy will use this person to demonstrate to a vast audience that there is a spirit realm – and may not necessarily involve God. It's a perpetuation of a lie.
The psychic has become taboo in Christian circles. Many Christians today will freak out when they see other Christians using their redeemed gifts and besting psychics. God gives us direct access to the supernatural. We don't embrace it. Remember how Elijah, God's seer, beat all of Jezebel's psychics? It was one man of God against many of her prophets. It was Elijah who called down the fire from Heaven on them! If that doesn't blow your mind on the supernatural scale I don't know what will.
Christian TV Psychics
It is interesting to see many paranormal TV shows using Christian psychics. This is a bad thing. There are no Christian psychics and worse yet these people are communicating directly with the spirits around them. It's a conflict of interest in your walk with God! The book, 2 Kings, chapter 21, pretty much sums up what God feels about the abuse of his law and his gifts.
1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-five years. His mother's name was Hephzibah. 2 He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, following the detestable practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before the Israelites. 3 He rebuilt the high places his father Hezekiah had destroyed; he also erected altars to Baal and made an Asherah pole, as Ahab king of Israel had done. He bowed down to all the starry hosts and worshiped them. 4 He built altars in the temple of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem I will put my Name." 5 In both courts of the temple of the LORD, he built altars to all the starry hosts. 6 He sacrificed his own son in the fire, practiced sorcery and divination, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger. – 2 Kings 21:1-6
The books of law in the Hebrew text many times emphasize that practicing divination and sorcery is a big NO-NO!
If you are a Christian and you are using psychic abilities you need to cease, repent from using it and seek proper guidance in seeing as God wants you to see. Wait a minute, I thought you said, being a psychic is a unredeemed gift? It is, but you are no longer speaking to the ghost-spirit realm. That door must be shut -and you are no longer a psychic -but a seer. And it is God's will and timing to give you revelation. That is you must pray and talk to God to get revelation (to see). The gift is now operating at God's discretion and for His will.
How narrow minded, you say? Yes. I hear that a lot.
But wait till you see the heavenly spirit realm. It blows the doors off the fabrications the soul-ish gifting shows you. You will start to see the little disembodied child spirit isn't what it is reporting itself to be to your psychic skills. Then you'll realized you were hacked! To use a high tech term. Nothing tops seeing angels. The good guys!
My goal here, again, isn't to point a finger and say REPENT! Or to say you're going to HELL! You get enough of that from my brethren who don't understand what the word repent really means. Yes, I have run into those annoying guys with the sandwich boards and bull horns too. I want to point out what Christian seers and those of us with discernment of spirits actually see. There are two channels in the spirit realm. One is straight from the source and the other is controlled propaganda broadcasting. The most exciting part of all this is that God does want to speak to you and He does speak. Switch channels!
